The International Barcode of Life Project (iBOL) is scheduled for formal activation in October 2010. Its first phase (2010-2015) will lead to the acquisition of DNA barcode records for 5M specimens representing 500K species. iBOL will release each barcode record in two phases. The initial phase will release barcode sequence(s), trace files, high-level (ordinal) taxonomic assignment, GPS co-ordinates and the country of collection. This phase of data release will occur quarterly during the ramp-up phase, but weekly after iBOL is formally activated. The second phase of data release will involve a more precise taxonomic assignment and ancillary data, such as images, for each specimen. The data release includes records for 224,243 specimens analyzed at the Canadian Centre for DNA Barcoding during the first year of iBOL ramp-up (July 1 2009 - June 30, 2010). These specimens derived from many collaborators in many nations. Attribution lists are under construction and will soon be posted. Data Packages:

Canadian Barcode of Life Network Website: www.bolnet.ca The Canadian Barcode of Life Network represents the first national network dedicated to large-scale DNA barcoding. The network itself is made up of nearly 50 researchers from across the country who are working towards the development and application of DNA technologies in the area of species identifications. Initial work focuses on barcoding species which are of particular economic, social, or environmental importance. These efforts promise to make important contributions to biodiversity research, and maintain Canada's place as a leader in the development of DNA barcoding. Data Packages:
